For someone with an extreme fear of flying, this story brings particular brightness to my day.
Last year, after pilot Joe Cabuk diseased while flying a chartered plane out of Florida, passenger Doug White was able to bring the plane down to the ground safely. With only 130 hours of flying experience in a small plane, and a tremendous amount of patience, bravery and hope, he was able to save his and his family's life. Doug White, a hero himself, however did not act alone. While air traffic controllers were not 10,000 feet in the air with Doug White, they were praised as heroes Monday, March 22nd, and received the National Air Traffic Controller Association's Archie League Medal of Safety Award.
Lisa Grimm, Nathan Henkels, Jessica Anaya, Brian Norton, Dan Favio and Carey Meadows will not only be appreciated and remembered by Doug White and his family but looked to as role-models by NATCA in the future.
